The Normanna Auxiliary was formed in April 1948, and plays an important role in raising funds for the entertainment of the residents.
The Auxiliary meets the first Monday of every month in order to discuss ways to raise money. A light lunch is provided. After lunch, the residents gather for live entertainment and snacks which are funded by the Auxiliary. Live entertainment is provided twice per month.
Amongst other things, funds are raised by holding silent auctions, bazaars, raffles and making and selling Norwegian open faced sandwiches and waffles.
In honour of Normanna’s 70th anniversary, the ladies produced a cook book which is available from the reception desk at $10.00 each. (604-522-5812)
Other uses for the money raised, includes music and massage programs, aimed at providing a calm environment for residents with dementia, as well as active game supplies and sing along DVD’s, which supports the belief that music is therapeutic.
Extraordinary gifts to the residents have included several pianos, iPods and a karaoke machine, a large free standing umbrella, garden furniture, plants and Christmas decorations etc.
The Auxiliary also donated $5,000 towards the purchase of our beautiful new bus which takes the residents on outings.
In addition, the Auxiliary hosts a very popular Christmas event every December. Please refer to Normanna’s newsletter for updates.
