Myrna Latval, Director
Born and raised in Burnaby, she is of proud Norwegian heritage, with her father born in Grytting in the Lofoten Islands and her mother born in New Westminster to Norwegian parents. She attended Edmonds and Burnaby South Senior Secondary Schools before beginning her career with the Burnaby School Board, where she worked for 11 years as Secretary to the Purchasing Agent and Maintenance Superintendent. Her professional background also includes sales recognition as a four-year member of Avon’s President’s Club, as well as roles with Singer Sewing Centre and Chapters in Langley. She is married and the proud mother of one daughter.
Her connection to Normanna spans a lifetime. With grandparents who lived across the street and close family members deeply involved—including her uncle Haakon Soros, who helped purchase and found Normanna, her uncle Ludvig Gulbransen who later served on the Board, and her aunt Ina Soros who was active in the Ladies Auxiliary—service to the organization has long been part of her family tradition. She has been a dedicated member of the Ladies Auxiliary for over 20 years, serving seven years as President, and has completed 12 years on the Board of Directors as Secretary and President, in addition to a recent one-year term replacement. A 63-year member and Life Member of Sons of Norway and Nordlandslaget Midnattsol, she also volunteers on major gardening and interior decorating projects at Normanna. An avid bridge player and pianist, she performs at Viking Lodge and Nordlandslaget. Normanna has always been a meaningful part of her heritage, and she remains deeply committed to supporting its mission, vision, and values.
